Portrait of Joe
This is a portrait of my friend Joe. Although this is not a traditional portrait, it portrays how you can capture a lot of emotions when photographing people.
This is a low key image, which means that the tones are dark. I wanted this to be a very emotional and dramatic piece. I was standing on a ladder shooting down on Joe. High angles can be very impacting. I used very minimal lighting in order to keep the low key mood. There is one spot light in the back, which highlights his shoulder and another softbox in the front at a 45 degree angle.
This image was shot with a Hasselblad medium format camera and Kodak 160 speed portrait film.
