Portrait of Karla
This is another nontraditional portrait. I really like taking portraits like this because it gives you room and the ability to be creative. You can come up with some very extraordinary pieces.
This is my friend Karla, and she is a ballet dancer. I thought she had great form and a graceful posture, she did an excellent job of modeling for me. I wanted this image to be elegant and simple. I really wanted to enhance her features so I chose black and white, this also gave the photograph more impact.
This image was shot in the studio. I used butterfly lighting with one umbrella at a 45 degree angle. The background was lit with a large softbox and spot lights to give it a gradiant.
I shot this with a Hasselblad medium format camera and Kodak 160 speed portrait black and white film.
