Food
Photographing food is one the most difficult subjects to shoot. This is mainly because after sitting underneath all of those hot lights, the food starts to look old and definately unappealing. Most photographers have food stylists who specialize in making food look “pretty”. In this case I was both the photographer and the food stylists.
I shot this image at my internship. It was difficult because I had to work fast, so that my food would still look fresh. Professionals usually have more than one subject. They have many of the same subject that all look alike. Once they get the final exposure and everything looks good they bring out the “hero”, which is the final subject to be shot. In this image you see the “dummy” and the “hero”, this is because I am a college student and sushi is expensive.
I shot this image with a light box above the sushi with many reflectors surrounding the subject. I shot this with a 4×5 camera that had a digital back attached to it.
