Apple Corps Ltd. Vs. Apple Computer Inc.
It all started when Apple Corps. sued Apple Computer over the word “Apple”. Both companies settled and Apple Computer agreed to never use the word “Apple” in context with music. A few years later in 2003, the Beatles, which is signed with Apple Corps Ltd. as their record label, sued Apple Computer Inc. again due to breach of contract over the use of music synthesizer hardware in their computers. The Beatles won the battle, causing Apple Computer to pay an estimated $50 million dollars.
Now in 2006, Apple Corps, for the third time, is suing Apple Computer claiming the iPod-creator violated a 1991 agreement which limited the use of the Apple Computer logo into the music business with the iTunes Music Store.
The two parties have headed to court in the Royal Courts of Justice in central London, presided by Judge Martin Mann, an iPod user. We have yet to hear how the case is developing. I will keep everyone posted!
