The Venue, Mercury and Boston’s

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

I grouped these together because they are all on the same street corner - 18th and Boston - in Tulsa. The Venue and Boston’s generally house local bands and semi-famous bands. Mercury is more of a lounge/bar but they do have bands play several night of the week, it also happens to be my favorite in Tulsa for it’s laid back atmosphere and good music. Plus, they have a jukebox, which is always a plus for me :)

THIS LINK will take you to a site that shows you all three venues as well as other bars and restaurants around that part of town.

Unfortunately, neither Boston’s nor The Venue have their own sites so that link will have to do. As for Mercury Lounge here you go:

This historical venue located in Tulsa has housed hundreds of national acts as well as just as many local and just-passing-through bands. Make sure to keep yourself updated with their calendar. You are sure to see at least one band you like passing through. And they are generally pretty cheap, which is always good news for us broke college kids right?

Just in case you didn’t see

I added a link for a site called Poll Star to the right of this post.  This is a great site to check out what concerts are coming near you as well as music news.  Make sure you give it a click.

Good Times Indeed…

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

So the show on Saturday went well.  Besides the mixup with set times which had each band start 30 minutes earlier than planned, it was a great rock show.  They made it all ages, therefor the bands had to be done by midnight.  This would have been fine except for the fact that there were five bands.  So figure in a 30-45 minute set for each with about 20 minutes between bands and that is an EARLY start compared to the normal 9 or 10 pm.

But, like I said it was fun.  I got to see a ton of people that I hadn’t seen in ages which is always good.  It was also Matt Slider’s birthday (singer for the feds) which I had completely forgotten about so the after party was one to be remembered.  They had it at a wine bar called Vintage on 18th and Boston.  They let the bands and friends stay after close and celebrate all night.  My friend Matt and I ended up leaving around 3 am to return to Stillwater so we could let his dog out (boo).

Now I’m just ready for Saturday when Upside plays here!!
