I Guess You Do Lose Your Rights At the School House Door.

According to Oklahoma Public Radio, a public school in Pocola, OK is debating an issue that challenges the First Amendment. 

School official Frank Makinson has sued the school district to stop Christian-based prayers at mandatory school meetings.

Oklahoma’s Sports Obsession

Oklahoma State University is still reeling from the recent defeat in the bedlam basketball game against OU.

Monday night, I was frequently bombarded, as I ran my nightly errands, with people shouting, grunting and chanting at the TV.

I couldn’t escape it when I walked into a local campus store or when I was in the anti-sports zone of my apartment. I could still hear my roommate getting excited over some guy throwing a ball through a hoop.

Oklahoma Spring Break

Spring Break is only a little more than a week away for most Oklahoma college students and high schoolers.

I imagine that everyone will be staying in the state to take part in many of the extremely interesting things to do in this state. I’m sure no one will be leaving to deposit their tourist dollars anywhere else except in their great homeland.

Oklahoma History 101

Everyone knows Oklahoma is the cultural desert of the United States. But did you know that Oklahoma was once considered part of the Great American Desert?

Before the United States acquired the real deserts in what is now Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and California, the land that would become Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado were seen as the Great American Desert by people east of the Mississippi River.

Oh yeah, My Dodge is a Terrorist Target!

After September 11th, 2001, a lot of people in every state were afraid of terrorist attacks.

Everyone was keeping their eyes peeled from their own front porches when a person with even the slightest tint to their skin crossed the street.

Their heart rates would jump when they saw an individual with a dark colored beard in line with them at the supermarket.

Ditch the Weather

Oklahomans know weather here can change on a whim.

Most recently, it went from pleasant, which is rare in this state, to cold in about a day.

Thursday was, for the most part, a nice, cool day. That is, until the sun went down.

Thursday night was so cold I had to put on my touk to walk to class.
