Surviving Oklahoma

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Oklahoma welcomes guests from all over the country and the world.  But it’s amazing how little Oklahomans know about the diverse cultures and lifestyles around them, even within our country’s own borders.

Check out the new page Oklahoma Survival Guide.  The page features a few out-of-staters listing the things they have done to cope with a new life in Oklahoma.

If you’re from out-of-state, do you have anything to add that might help people from your part of the country live a sane life in this state?

If you’re from Oklahoma, do you agree with the out-of-staters?  Do you think Oklahomans would have a hard time living in their state?  Is it just as hard for Oklahomans living here as is it for out-of-staters.

April is Toy and Action Figure Month

Monday, April 24th, 2006

It’s a bittersweet day.  The Landmark of the Month page is, for the most part, complete.

It’s been great four months.  We have had a lot of memories.  We laughed; we cried; we skimmed through the pages not really paying attention.

In the end, we’ve seen four great Oklahoma landmarks lampooned on the Oklahoma Sucks feature.

The next and final month is April’s Toy and Action Figure Museum

The museum is in Pauls Valley and is basically the only thing of interest in the town.

It was chosen because of its unique content and its national media buzz.

Brand New Page

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

The new page Oklahoma Top 5 has just been added to Oklahoma Sucks.

On the Oklahoma Top 5, you’ll find the top 5 things most people like about living or visiting Oklahoma.

Feel free to check out the page and the links and see if you agree.  If not, be sure to rant about your own opinions here on this post.

I look forward to hearing everyone’s opinions.

Of course, most of you will probably not respond lowering my grade.  I guess this means that my content is just not that good.

It’s not like anyone out there is apathetic, has senoritis or doesn’t check their websites and everyone elses websites everyday like I do.

It must be me.  I must pay for providing several boring, poorly written posts that don’t deserve credit.

Maybe I should have picked a better topic that would’ve provoked more discussion, like my obsession with 3-D puzzles or my addiction to Amazon.com.

All of these topics are better than my boring topic that tries to comment on social issues of the day that are pertinent to everyday life in Oklahoma.

I deserve a lower grade because of this.  I also didn’t respond to anyone elses posts.  Why should I get credit?  It’s not like I did my part.

Dome-lessness No Longer a Problem in Oklahoma

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

Well, it has finally happened.  I updated the Landmark of the Month page for March.  And only two weeks into April.  It’s a new record.

The Landmark of the Month for March is the Oklahoma State Capitol Dome.  It was chosen because it “completes” one of the most important buildings in the state.

Underneath this dome, important decisions are being made; decisions about what you can do in your own bedroom and who, when and how you marry or how many children you can have.

What would we do without the Oklahoma lawmakers deciding for us what books we can check out and what shows and films we can watch.

Yes, important things happen here at the dome.

The people of Oklahoma thought the dome was a waste of money.

But the people know as much about how taxpayer dollars should be spent as they know about what they really want.  Or at least, that’s what the lawmakers think.

New Landmark of the Month: A Price-y Place to Visit

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

The long awaited Landmark of the Month for February has finally been added. It took a long time because the judging was difficult; a lot of great contenders. That and it took me forever to get around to getting an adequate picture.

Well, as the name of this entry suggests, the February Landmark of the Month is the Price Tower Arts Center. The admission price is in fact quite reasonable. Four dollars for adults, three dollars for senior citizens, and free for children under 16.

The Price Tower was selected for February because it is a really great place to spend an evening. The architecture is exquisite, the history is fascinating and the ambiance is marvelous.

If your ever in the Bartlesville area around dinner time, I recommend checking out the Price Tower’s Copper Bar and Restaurant. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time, though (Yes, Oklahoma has a restaurant that you have to make reservations for).

If you go on a Thursday, you might just get lucky to be there during one of their Coppertones: A Night of Jazz nights. They serve great food, drinks and feature stars of the local jazz scene performing live.

About Page Update

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

The “About. . .” page has been updated.  I have organized all of the categories under the blog section.

This is supposed to help people find the topic they’re interested in and read about the particular issue they want.

Their are currently five categories, but you can expect several more.

Also, I have linked all of the categories to the “About. . .” page for easier navigation.

So check back frequently for more updates to see which categories have been added and what they’re all about.

If you have any ideas about a future category or future post, send me a comment and I’ll look into making it a part of the Oklahoma Sucks category family.

Introducing A New Page!

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

It’s been up for a few days, but the new “Oklahoma Landmark of the Month” page is ready.

Check back every month or so to see what the next featured landmark is.

Oklahoma has several special places that make it unique.  Some for good reasons and some for not so good reasons.

Currently, January’s place of interest has been chosen and February’s is being decided.

What are the criteria to be recogized for this wonderful honor?

Well, basically, it’s whatever I want.

January’s was chosen because it has been in the news recently and it seemed fitting to grant this accolade to OSU’s Boone Pickens Stadium.

Let’s All Move, Right Now!

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Are you getting fed up with walking out of your trailor house every morning on your way to your job as a wage slave at the burger place and getting a mouth full of red dirt?

I know I am!

Are you getting sick and tired of all those fancy city slickers on the coasts referring to our mediocre utopia as a “fly-over state”?
