1/26 The O.C.
Since we have class on Thursday nights that means we will all have to miss Fox’s hit show The O.C. which airs at 8 p.m. central time. So, I had my roommates tape it to keep everyone updated on what happened.
At the beginning of the show Summer informs Seth that she too has an interview with Brown University (this is where Seth really wants to go to school). But for some reason Seth starts acting weird and seems to be having anxiety about leaving Newport.
Sandy and Matt make a proposal for a hospital that lower income neighborhoods will have access to. The board doesn’t seem interested and Sandy soon finds out that their competitors have been taking out Bill Merriam for months.
Kaitlin (Marissa’s sister who has recently been appearing on the show) and Johnny hang out at the pier, without Marissa knowing it. They talk about her upcoming birthday. Julie, Kaitlin and Marissa’s mother, has a date with Dr. Roberts that gets cut short because she has to pick up Marissa but agrees to a date on Sunday. Later that night Julie talks about having a business meeting on Sunday night ( which is really her date) and forgets Kaitlin’s birthday. Kaitlin leaves the house and runs into Seth who is walking around thinking about everything. She offers to sell him pot but Marissa shows up and gets Kaitlin to leave.
Dr. Roberts offers to let Julie have Kaitlin’s 15th birthday party at his house. Meanwhile, Ryan helps Seth and Summer prepare for their interviews. That night Ryan and Marissa are hanging out at the Bait Shop Bar, when Kaitlin shows up with Johnny. She then tells Marissa that they have been hanging out a lot in secret and that they had a midnight swim together. It seems like she is purposely trying to upset her sister and make her jealous. After she talks to her sister she has Johnny take her home but he tells her that he just wants to be friends and that she is too young. When she gets home she runs into Seth, who wants to take her up on her previous offer.
In an attempt to show Bill Merriam who he really is, Sandy takes Bill to a burrito stand that shows the underpriveleged neighborhoods that would benefit from the hospital. But he soon realizes that Bill is not interested and he tells Matt that they can do things his way. The guys take Bill to Matt’s house and give him some drinks and invite beautiful women over, which works because they get the contract.
Seth keeps smoking weed alone in his room and Ryan discovers what he is doing when Seth won’t stop babbling and laughing. He ends up skipping his interview and lying to Summer about it.
At Kaitlin’s party she leads Johnny upstairs even though he tries to get her to go back downstairs. In an effort to make him prove he isn’t still in love with Marissa, she kisses him and then goes back to the party. Downstairs, Ryan tells Marissa about Kaitlin’s pot stash. Then Kaitlin is leading Johnny out the door when Marissa confronts her. She tells her she knows about the pot and says she feels like she doesn’t even know her sister anymore. Kaitlin responds by saying that Marissa isn’t truly concerned but rather she is just jealous about her and Johnny. She also says that everyone can tell that Marissa likes him and that if she really doesn’t like that she won’t mind that she just made out with Johnny upstairs. Marissa looks very shaken up and the two leave her standing there.
Marissa goes back inside to tell her mother her sister has left. Her mother is standing there in front of Dr. Roberts with her daughter’s cake and scolds Marissa for getting into a fight with Kaitlin on her birthday. Dr. Roberts sees the dysfunctional family as a little too much for him and calls things off with Julie.
All in all I thought this was a pretty good episode but I really hope that Marissa and Johnny get together because her relationship with Ryan is getting boring. But judging from the previews it seems as though Johnny is going to get drunk and threatens hurting himself because he couldn’t handle things. I also felt sorry for Seth because he seems really sad about moving on and leaving behind friends for college. If you watch this show and have any thought or comments about the show feel free to make them.
