V for Vendetta

tickets.JPGA few weeks ago I watched V for Vendetta. This movie is based on a British comic book printed between 1982 and 1985. There were ten issues of the comic written that were later collected as a graphic novel. The movie and comic book are based in a futuristic Britain. There are some differences between the two. For instance, Natalie Portman’s Character, Evey, is a twenty something girl who befriends V the vigilante. In the comic Evey is sixteen and an admirer of V. This is an interesting comic book to have been made into a film.

Natalie Portman

film.JPG Natalie Portman is a young actress born in Jerusalem, Israel. Her acting career started when she played a young girl trying to get revenge for her family’s death in The Professional. She was able to play a leading role in her first film. She became very well known when she played Queen Amidala in the Star Wars prequals. Some of her other films include Heat, Beautiful Girls, Mars Attacks, Where the Heart Is, and Cold Mountain. She can currently be seen in the British comic book made movie V for Vendetta.

Natalie Portman was an amazing actress even during her first film The Professional. The Professional is one of my favorite movies. In the beginning of the movie Natalie Portman’s character, a preteen girl, discovers her family has been killed. She is able to hide at a neighbor’s apartment from the men that are still in her family’s apartment after killing them. From her neighbor she learns how to be a cleaner (professional killer). This is an interesting first movie for any actress. I recommend that everyone should see one of her films.

Carmike Continued

tickets2.JPGI thought that I would give an update about Carmike Cinema. It has been around three weeks since I sent an e-mail to Carmike Cinema. I sent the e-mail asking why there are many movies that never reach the Stillwater location. The night I sent the e-mail I received a conformation later that my question had been received. It also stated that I would receive an answer in three to five days. It has been about three weeks since I sent the e-mail and I have not received an answer. I doubt that I will ever get an answer from Carmike. I have not been able to find out why I was unable to see the Oscar Nominated movie, Good Night, and Good Luck. I will just wait until it is released on DVD before I see the movie.

Valley of the Wolves (Kurtlar Vadisi - Irak)

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

Actors, Gary Busey and Billy Zane, have recently been seen in the controversial Turkish movie Kurtlar Vadisi - Irak or Valley of the Wolves. Many Americans have been angry about this film. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough of “Scarborough Country,” recently interviewed Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic league and Grady Hendrix, writer of an Asian movie blog, about this Turkish movie. Bill Donahue claimed that the two American actors in this movie did the film for the money. To take a look at the debate go look at the transcript from this “Scarborough Country” show.

I have not been able to see this movie yet. I hope that I will eventually be able to see the film. The plot summary for this film can be found on the IMDb Web site. However, I do know that the budget of this film was $10 million. This makes me disagree with Bill Donahue’s claim that these two prominent Amercan actors did the movie for the money. Billy Zane has been a model, an actor and one of the main characters in the blockbuster film Titanic. Gary Bucey has had his own television series about his real life. Take a look at the debate on this movie and take the poll.
