Some Like it Hot

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

tickets2.JPG I thought I would talk about a funny classic movie for this blog. I decided Some Like it Hot would be the perfect choice for this entry. This is a classic film with some huge stars in it. Tony Curtis’s and Jack Lemmon’s characters decide to dress in drag and join a female band to evade the mob. While traveling with the band the female impersonators become friends with Marilyn Monroe’s character. The two men are soon fighting over the attention of Monroe.

This is a great classic movie. It is funny and daring for the time. I think everyone should check out this movie.

Young Frankenstein

film.JPG Mel Brooks is one of my favorite directors. I have two favorite movies of his. I have already written about Robin Hood: Men in tights. Now, I would like to write about my other favorite, the 1974 Young Frankenstein. This movie is a spoof of the Mary Shelly novel, “Frankenstein”.

Gene Wilder plays Dr. Frederick Frankenstein the grandson of the Dr. Victor von Frankenstein that created a monster. Frederick makes every effort to disassociate himself from his grandfather, the mad scientist. He even mispronounces his name to save himself from the humiliation of being related to his grandfather. Dr. Fredrick inherits his grandfather’s castle where he finds the Victor’s research. Frederick soon becomes obsessed with creating another monster. Peter Boyle from “Everybody Loves Raymond”, plays Dr. Frankenstein’s monster in this movie.

This is a classic comedy. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. Mel Brooks cast the perfecti actors in this movie. Have fun watching.

The World’s Fastest Indian

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

film.JPGThe World’s Fastest Indian is based on a true story about a land-speed record. This movie is based on the motorcycle land-speed world record holder Burt Munro who is played by Anthony Hopkins. Burt is a New Zealand man that travels to the United States to prove his 1921 Indian motorcycle is the fastest in the world. He spends about forty years modifying his motorcycle for best performance. He is finally able to save enough money to visit the United States to prove the speed of his motorcycle. As he travels to Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats, he proves that he is still a ladies man in his old age. He eventually makes his way to the flats to find trouble regarding his entry into Speed Week.

This is a cute movie that most of the family can watch together. It is PG-13 for some different references. I think this is a good movie for anyone to see. It has many funny parts and is interesting. Burt Munro led and exciting life that is very entertaining.

Manly Men in Tights

robinhood.jpeg The 1993 movie Robin Hood: Men in Tights is my favorite Mel Brooks directed comedy. This movie is a spoof on the original Robin Hood story. Throughout the movie there are numerous jokes made about other Robin Hood movies. The beginning of the movie starts with a small village burning. One of the villagers complains that every time a Robin Hood movie is made they burn down their village. There are many other jokes along these lines made at many different points during the movie.
