The Sentinel

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

film.JPG Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland star in the new movie, The Sentinel. The movie starts with Douglas’s character, Pete Garrison, discovering a plot to assassinate the president. Garrison finds out that one of the agents in the Secret Service is in on the plot. Soon the other agents are trying to arrest Garrison for conspiracy to murder the president. Garrison must uncover the true bad agent to save the president.

This movie follows the same plot line as The Fugitive, or U.S. Marshals. The only thing new is the plot to kill the president. I think The Fugitive and U.S. Marshals are better movies then The Sentinel. I would not tell people to never see the movie, but I wouldn’t recommend paying to see it at the movie theater. It is at best a rental.

American History X

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

tickets2.JPG American History X has one of my favorite actors, Edward Norton. Norton plays Derek Vinyard a man recently released from prison for murdering another man. Derek is a former skinhead trying to keep his younger brother from following in his footsteps. The movie is full of flashbacks on Derek’s life. The flashbacks show Derek’s transformation into a skinhead and his realization that what he has done is wrong. He tries to use his experiences to show his brother the right way.

This is an emotional movie. It is not something that everyone would want to see. It is very graphic and unsettling. This is my favorite movie of Edward Norton. Although the movie is not for everyone, I believe many should see this film.

Memento (2000)

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

tickets.JPGMemento doesn’t start at the beginning of the story like most films. This movie starts somewhere around the last scene of the film. This is because the main character, Leonard, has a problem with short-term memory. Leonard played by Guy Pearce, lost the capability of making new memories after an accident that occurred when his home was robbed.

Leonard takes pictures and tattoos his body to save his new memories. The story moves to the beginning to explain everything that is happening to Leonard. He finds himself in many strange situations that he has no idea of how he got there.

This is a movie that must be watched closely to understand everything that is happening to Leonard. It is easy to watch this movie closely because it is exciting. Almost every person that I have talked to has either loved the movie or hated it. It is worth watching the movie for the surprise ending, which is also the beginning of the story. Have fun watching this different film.

The Posiedon Adventure

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

wave.jpgGene Hackman played Reverend Frank Scott in the 1972 movie, The Poseidon Adventure. This is a classic adventure movie. The movie starts with a large group of people traveling on a luxury ship. Soon the captain, Leslie Nielson, receives a call about an earthquake in the area the ship is sailing. The passengers are celebrating New Year’s Eve when a huge wave hits capsizing the ship. This leaves the passengers with two choices. Some of the passengers stay where they are waiting for help while others try to make their way to the engine room to save themselves. Reverend Frank Scott leads the small group on its search for the engine room.

Poseidon is the remake of the classic film. Poseidon will be released on May 12, 2006. The new version of the film will star many big actors. Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas and Richarch Dreyfuss are a few of the faces that will be seen in the film. I will be looking forward to seeing this new version of the film. The original had a great cast and so does the new version. I really enjoyed The Poseidon Adventure and I hope Poseidon will be as good.
