A few weeks ago I watched V for Vendetta. This movie is based on a British comic book printed between 1982 and 1985. There were ten issues of the comic written that were later collected as a graphic novel. The movie and comic book are based in a futuristic Britain. There are some differences between the two. For instance, Natalie Portman’s Character, Evey, is a twenty something girl who befriends V the vigilante. In the comic Evey is sixteen and an admirer of V. This is an interesting comic book to have been made into a film.

Actors, Gary Busey and Billy Zane, have recently been seen in the controversial Turkish movie Kurtlar Vadisi - Irak or Valley of the Wolves. Many Americans have been angry about this film. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough of “Scarborough Country,” recently interviewed Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic league and Grady Hendrix, writer of an Asian movie blog, about this Turkish movie. Bill Donahue claimed that the two American actors in this movie did the film for the money. To take a look at the debate go look at the transcript from this “Scarborough Country” show.

I have not been able to see this movie yet. I hope that I will eventually be able to see the film. The plot summary for this film can be found on the IMDb Web site. However, I do know that the budget of this film was $10 million. This makes me disagree with Bill Donahue’s claim that these two prominent Amercan actors did the movie for the money. Billy Zane has been a model, an actor and one of the main characters in the blockbuster film Titanic. Gary Bucey has had his own television series about his real life. Bruce Willis and Mos Def star in the new movie 16 Blocks. This movie was released March 3, 2006. Bruce Willis plays Detective Jack Mosley an aging alcoholic. Jack Mosley is a different character for Bruce Willis. It is interesting to see Bruce Willis as an aging man having trouble walking up stairs. Mos Def also plays a different character than usual. In the movie Mos Def’s character, Eddie Bunker, is a nasal speaking criminal. These new types of characters that the two actors play make for a good film.

For those of you that are Quentin Tarantino fans, From Dusk Till Dawn should be your next movie rental. Although the movie was not directed by Tarantino, however, Tarantino did act in the movie and wrote this one. The director of this movie was Robert Rodriguez. Some might recognize Rodriguez as one of the directors of Sin City. Rodriguez is also the director of the El Mariachi trilogy. Besides Tarantino, George Clooney, Harvey Keitel and Juliette Lewis also stared in the movie. This film is a really good dark comedy.
