Old School
Old School is a movie about three guys about in their 30’s who seem to be on the verge of a mid life crisis and somehow start an off campus fraternity. As the story progresses, the dean of the university wants to take over Mitch’s newly rented home, one of the founders of the fraternity, and kick off the fraternity for all the binge drinking, party throwing, and streaking chaos they cause.
This movie does not give fraternity life a horrible reputation like National Lampoon’s Animal House. At times, some parts poke fun at Greek life hazing. For example, all future new members have to tie a rope around the end of their penis and threw a cinder block of a building. Good thing, the rope is long enough to make it to the ground. This kind of hazing would never make it an university campus, unless they wanted their charter pulled by the next day.
There is a few parts in the movie that promote Greek life in a positive favor. The fraternity unites together to fight the Dean to stay on campus. They sacrifice their own time and energy to help each member of the fraternity through a series of tests. The movie actually shows a fraternity uniting as brothers in order to help each other out to stay on campus. Unlike Animal House, the fraternity is not kicked off campus. They are welcomed by the student body and not seen as trouble makers.
