Up in Smoke

Here we go again. A fire destroyed Mom and Dad’s home in Yukon on Sept. 30. The fire started on the back porch of the house around 7 p.m. Dad was grilling steaks when sparks shot from the grill’s propane tank into the eaves of the roof. Big Ray couldn’t move the grill away from the house for fear it would explode. Once the fire was in the attic, nothing could stop it. Between that, a lack of water and spectators blocking the only road, the house I still call home is gone, save some remaining brick.

Mom and Dad are camping out at the Best Western. They met with the insurance company Monday. They moved into a fully-furnished, two-bedroom apartment in The Links in Mustang. The apartment is on The Links golf course and includes free range balls, golf carts, pool, sauna, workout faciltiy and tanning. It’s really nice! They will begin rebuilding soon.
Oct. 18 will mark the sixth anniversary of the fire that destroyed our previous home.
