Graphics, Graphics and More Graphics! The Overvisualization of News!

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Enough is enough! Am I the only person on the planet who does not feel just a little overwhelmed by all of the graphics streaming, jumping, popping and doing swirling around the television screen as I try and watch the “news”? It is hard enough to sift through all the political jockeying in cable news these days without trying to sift through a bombardment of graphics. Half the time I am not sure whether I should be listening to the anchor or reading one of them any streaming stories on the bottom of the screen. (more…)

The Stills

The Stills are a new band that hails from Montreal, Canada…eh?! I just started listening to them a few months ago when I head they were opening for Kings of Leon. I have to say, they have grown on me. They are a band that utilizes the piano as well as two different lead singers. This results in an extremely melodic type of rock. Their new album, Without Feathers, is really well written from start to finish. They do a great job of using tempo changes and quick beats to keep the listener interested. My favorite song on the album would have to be “Shoplifter”. It almost reminds me of a cross between Coldplay and Death Cab for a Cutie. Unfortunately it is the one song I missed from them…I was at the bar “preparing” for Kings of Leon. Ah, well, it happens. Anyways, I would definitely recommend The Stills.  You can listen to some of their songs here.

Kings of Leon- Band of the Week

blur.jpgI am just saying… the Kings of Leon are the greatest band in America. On September 22, I had the opportunity to see the Kings of Leon for the third time. This is something that I have been looking forward to since the second time I saw them. Plain and simple, Kings of Leon is my favorite band. Many people have not heard of them, and that is a damn shame. I first began listening to them my freshman year of college and they have been my favorite ever since I put their CD, Youth and Young Manhood, in. They are like no other band I have ever heard. Their music is a fuse between southern, garage, gospel and almost any other type of rock you can think of.

The Beginning

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

This is my first of many posts. I would like to lay out the plan for this blog of mine, but since I am not very organized, the best I can do is a rough outline. I originally had huge, grand plans for this site, but I think I will mainly target a few important subjects of mine: Music and Politics. I am going to use this blog of mine to talk about some of my favorite and for the most part unknown bands; as well as, vent a little about the state of politics in the United States. I am sure that I will find time to discuss other topics and there is no telling what they will be, so check back often.  Remember, you don’t always have to take what I am saying too seriously…”I am just saying.”
