Fox News Confusing Potential Voters

October 17th, 2006

I am sure that everyone is well aware of the Mark Foley scandal that has surfaced in the last few weeks. I am also sure that most people are aware of the incessant coverage. Are you also aware of the seemingly deliberate misidentification of Foley’s party by Fox News? It seems that “Murdoch and Friends” were either making a conscious effort to muddy the political waters and confuse potential viewers or it was just plain irresponsible journalism. The graphics on the “O’Reilly” factor on two separate occasions misidentified him as a Democrat. Now I may be playing devil’s advocate, but does it not seem convenient that Foley would be incorrectly labeled a Democrat on an infamously conservative and Republican-leaning “news” show, especially this close to a tightly-contested election year? Who knows, but according to Media Matters, the “O’Reilly Factor” never made any corrections to this mistake. Read the rest of this entry »

Dirty Pretty Things

October 17th, 2006

dpthings.jpgI have fell in love with yet another British rock band. It never fails. There is always good music coming from the rainy streets of London or any other city or town in England. Dirty Pretty Things are a four man rock band that has a sound that is not only catchy and upbeat, but also varying from song to song. The band includes: Carl Barat, Anthony Rossamondo, Didz Hammond and Gary Powell. If you are familiar with the band Libertines, you will be familiar with the work of Carl Barat and Gary Powell. Gooding

October 17th, 2006

gooding.jpgI had the pleasure of seeing Gooding for the second time this past Saturday at Eskimo Joe’s. Because of their amazing show they will be my band of the week. The band utilizes a simple line-up of three musicians to make a not-so-simple sound. The members include Gooding-vocals and guitar, Jesse Richenburgh- Drums, and Billy Driver on bass. They are from Wichita, Kansas and tour the five-state-area. They have an extremely unique blues sound that is almost exclusively driven by Gooding’s amazing talent at guitar. Graphics, Graphics and More Graphics! The Overvisualization of News!

September 28th, 2006

Enough is enough! Am I the only person on the planet who does not feel just a little overwhelmed by all of the graphics streaming, jumping, popping and doing swirling around the television screen as I try and watch the “news”? It is hard enough to sift through all the political jockeying in cable news these days without trying to sift through a bombardment of graphics. Half the time I am not sure whether I should be listening to the anchor or reading one of them any streaming stories on the bottom of the screen. Read the rest of this entry »

The Stills

September 28th, 2006

The Stills are a new band that hails from Montreal, Canada…eh?! I just started listening to them a few months ago when I head they were opening for Kings of Leon. I have to say, they have grown on me. They are a band that utilizes the piano as well as two different lead singers. This results in an extremely melodic type of rock. Their new album, Without Feathers, is really well written from start to finish. They do a great job of using tempo changes and quick beats to keep the listener interested. My favorite song on the album would have to be “Shoplifter”. It almost reminds me of a cross between Coldplay and Death Cab for a Cutie. Unfortunately it is the one song I missed from them…I was at the bar “preparing” for Kings of Leon. Ah, well, it happens. Anyways, I would definitely recommend The Stills.  You can listen to some of their songs here.

Kings of Leon- Band of the Week

September 26th, 2006

blur.jpgI am just saying… the Kings of Leon are the greatest band in America. On September 22, I had the opportunity to see the Kings of Leon for the third time. This is something that I have been looking forward to since the second time I saw them. Plain and simple, Kings of Leon is my favorite band. Many people have not heard of them, and that is a damn shame. I first began listening to them my freshman year of college and they have been my favorite ever since I put their CD, Youth and Young Manhood, in. They are like no other band I have ever heard. Their music is a fuse between southern, garage, gospel and almost any other type of rock you can think of.

The Beginning

September 7th, 2006

This is my first of many posts. I would like to lay out the plan for this blog of mine, but since I am not very organized, the best I can do is a rough outline. I originally had huge, grand plans for this site, but I think I will mainly target a few important subjects of mine: Music and Politics. I am going to use this blog of mine to talk about some of my favorite and for the most part unknown bands; as well as, vent a little about the state of politics in the United States. I am sure that I will find time to discuss other topics and there is no telling what they will be, so check back often.  Remember, you don’t always have to take what I am saying too seriously…”I am just saying.”
