Unknown Tattoo Shop ?

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

A week or two ago I stopped by the little gas station on the east side of Perkins that’s just before the car wash, Buffalo Wild Wings and the movie theater. You know the one, right past Christie’s Toy Box and the liquor store. It’s sort of on the corner of a mini-mall-type setup, and when I came out I noticed there was a label on the awning above one of the spaces on the north side that said “Tattoo Shop.” Naturally, I was curious, so I tried to get a closer look without peering inside through the window like a psycho, but I was unable to see anything, and there weren’t any labels on the door to give an indication of hours or whether the shop was even open. Does Stillwater have a third tattoo shop, or is it still in the works? I don’t know about you, but my curiosity is piqued…..

Murder Ink

This tattoo parlor is located at 224 S. Main St., between Cooper Bicycle and Cooper Locksmith. The owners/operators are native Stillwaterians Bert Kaiser and Tony Forsythe, the not-so-famous former graffiti artist. It’s not open yet, because of licensing and insurance issues and setbacks, but Tony says it should be open soon. I have an article about Murder Ink set to come out in the O’Colly on the day that it opens, so you can find out more information by reading that. I’ll post a link on here when it comes out.

College Ink Tattoo

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Many of you have probably driven down Knoblock on the southeast side of campus by the Campus Fire Station and noticed the tattoo shop right across the street from it, College Ink Tattoo. I noticed it the day it opened, the Friday of Walkaround, Oct. 20, while I was riding by my bike past it. Linsey has already mentioned it in one of her posts a few weeks ago.
Subsequently, I wondered what made College Ink so special that it was able to open before tattooing was even considered officially legal in Oklahoma. Also, there is a law prohibiting tattoo shops from being within 1,000 feet of a school, church or playground, and the shop is closer than that to all three (OSU, a church a block over and the YMCA playground). So, I decided to do some research, along with a news package assignment for JB 3153 (A/V Production) on the shop.
But before I talk about that, just a little tidbit of information I have GOT to throw out there: the two artists we interviewed for our news package were named Matt Noghabai and, get this: “Butcher.” That is his actual last name. He wouldn’t tell us his first. Seemed like a really nice guy, though. I wouldn’t mind getting a tattoo done by him. (more…)
