Festival of Discorus
This weekend I went to the Festival of Discorus at the Zoo Amphitheatre in Oklahoma City. Bands who played were Dropping Daylight, Halestorm, Evans Blue, Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, and Seether. I haven’t been to an actual big-name concert in a while (I used to go to them all the time), and the last time I went to the Zoo Amphitheatre was in 2001, to see Korn at Kattfest. I must be getting old, I think I enjoyed myself a lot more back then.Gates opened at 1 and we (My husband, my sister and brother and their roommate and I) ended up getting there shortly after 2, when Halestorm was already on. I really mainly went to see Crossfade, and Breaking Benjamin. We stayed out in the parking lot of Remington Park for a few minutes before the concert, having a couple of beers before we went in because we knew they would be outrageously expensive. And we were right. There was a full bar but mixed drinks were small and cost $6.50, and 12 oz. and 16 oz. cans of beer were a whopping $3.75 and $4.75, respectively. Needless to say, I bascially blew all my money within the first hour and a half of being there. It was crowded and hot, and there were SO MANY little high school kids there acting stupid and drinking and smoking pot it was sort of hard to focus on the music. Plus, my brother got knocked out by an elbow to the nose in the mosh pit, so that really sucked. Crossfade was awesome though. Breaking Benjamin was pretty cool too, but they played a super long set and then sort of disappeared without coming over to the fence near where we were standing so I could get autographs. Since it had gotten so crowded and I wasn’t very interested in staying to see Shinedown and Seether, we left shortly after 8, before they went onstage. We came back to Stillwater and went to Eskimo Joe’s later that night to see one of my favorite underground indie regional rock bands, Gooding.
