The Oklahoma Body Art Festival was held the weekend of September 15-17 at The Hive in Tulsa. It focused on all types of body art and featured tattooing and live music (two of my very favorite things — together!). I would have been there, if I hadn’t had a previous engagement (see two entries ago). There was also a car show, a bike show and over 30 artists, including tattooists, piercers and other body artists, on location. There were also a appearances by renowned artists Kat von D from the TLC channel’s show “Miami Ink” and Enigma.

Kunek is a six-person Stillwater band with a completely unique sound that can probably best be described as ambient and ethereal progressive indie rock. The group originally began two years ago as an instrumental band with three members, but with the addition of three other members and singer Jesse Tabish’s heartfelt vocals, the music became that much more meaningful. The instrumental sound combines guitar, bass, percussion, keyboards, accordion, harmonica, cello and lapsteel at any given time. The band recently re-released a remastered version of its debut album, “Flight of the Flynns.” They have been touring extensively across the United States, and gaining tons of recognition and fans along the way. Their music is beautiful (albeit not exactly my cup of tea) and Kunek will probably be the next big band to come from Stillwater (forget those Rejects guys!!).

I wore a strapless dress. I have a fairly good-sized tribal armband tattoo on my upper arm. I didn’t want to offend any relatives or draw attention away from my beautiful dress, so I ended up ordering a tattoo cover kit that I had seen in a bridal magazine.

So I’m in my car the other day, headed to the post office, rockin’ out to a Black Eyed Peas song I like that’s on the radio (it may surprise people to find out I’m not all hard rock and heavy metal), singing along (in my head, of course), and as I’m impatiently anticipating the bridge and chorus, it comes on….
“Oh no no no, don’t *mess* with my heart.”

Last Thursday evening was a series of letdowns, putdowns, fashion faux pas and plain ol’ mishaps. No, I’m not talking about a night on the Strip. The MTV Video Music Awards aired Aug. 31. If you didn’t get to see the show, here’s what you missed:

I had to go and be unoriginal….I’m combining two subjects that people have already chosen.
This site is going to be dedicated to music and tattoos, namely the current news aspect of them and what’s going on with music nationwide and tattoo legalization in Oklahoma. Many of my posts will probably be about my take on happenings in the music world, mentioning a band or CD I think is cool, updating on what’s going on with tattoo legalization in Oklahoma, and maybe posting some pictures of tattoos.
