Hell 2 Da Naw!

This is a bit dated since I started writing it a while back and just never finished, but here you go…

Anyone who is even a mild fan of sports has more than likely seen video of the absolute brawl that took place during the Miami vs. Florida International football game. I have been somewhat speechless about the whole thing up until recently. While watching it, I could only murmur adjectives like “unbelievable,” “embarrassing,” “disgusting” and “ridiculous.”

This is pop culture, right? Just a little maybe? Oh well…

Hopefully, most of you have read this story at one time or another, but since I recently came across the accompanying video, I figured it was worth posting.

It is the story of Dick and Rick Hoyt and has been passed around quite a bit in e-mail fowards and the like. On the plus side, this one is actually true and worthwhile.

Originally, Rick Reilly devoted one of his columns to the Hoyts in the June 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated. As a side note, if you are unaware of who Rick Reilly is, you really should check out some of his work because it is fantastic.

The reason I am posting it is because I think it is one of the more inspirational stories I have ever heard. Dick Hoyt epitomizes what a father should be and what love truly means. If I turn out to be half the man he appears to be, then I will consider myself successful.

By the way, if upon reading the story or watching the video, you find yourself sobbing uncontrollably, I will not hold it against you.

Rarely does a band come along that is able to truly captivate me. In fact, the list of those bands can be limited to just one. Radiohead. However, in the past year, one group of musicians has been creeping toward the upper echelon of the musical ranking system in my mind. That band is Coheed and Cambria.
