Guilty Pleasures

Everyone has their guilty pleasures. You know, those things you enjoy that seem to defy all sense of taste and, in some cases, sense. I guess I am no different than anyone else in this regard, yet I still feel bad about it.

Sometimes, a song will come on the radio that I can’t help but enjoy, and as soon as I pull up to an intersection I am forced to turn down the volume and/or roll up the windows. I have to maintain my reputation, you know.

Then, there are the times when I will be watching(and enjoying) something ultra lame on television, but when someone walks in I feel slightly embarrassed. It is quite the quandary.

Why can’t we just watch or listen to our guilty pleasures without feeling that guilt? I guess we all care what other people think even if we like to say otherwise. Oh well.

Here are a few of my guilty pleasures.

A Walk to Remember - This movie is what inspired this post since I just finished watching it on TBS. Good grief, I nearly cried, and I have seen it several times. This is precisely the type of sentimental rubbish that I rail against on a regular basis, yet it sucks me in every time. Sigh.

The Wedding Singer - Do I lose some masculinity if I say a movie is “cute”?

Maroon 5 - Synthesized. Pop. Garbage. And yet, so very catchy.

Fall Out Boy/All American Rejects/Panic! At the Disco - The number of 13-year-old girls who adore these bands is enough to scare me away, but you know what, I still sing along.

Wife Swap - What an absolute train wreck this show is, and just like a train wreck, I can’t help but watch. I think it has something to do with an innate desire to look at people who are so clearly below me in every important facet of life.

Made -  How fun is it to watch those whiny kids make fools of themselves?  Extremely.
