Why am I writing a post about the University of Tennessee at Martin?
October 25th, 2006Because there is an abundance of stupid people in this world. That’s why.
Because there is an abundance of stupid people in this world. That’s why.
This is a bit dated since I started writing it a while back and just never finished, but here you go…
Anyone who is even a mild fan of sports has more than likely seen video of the absolute brawl that took place during the Miami vs. Florida International football game. I have been somewhat speechless about the whole thing up until recently. While watching it, I could only murmur adjectives like “unbelievable,” “embarrassing,” “disgusting” and “ridiculous.”
Hopefully, most of you have read this story at one time or another, but since I recently came across the accompanying video, I figured it was worth posting.
It is the story of Dick and Rick Hoyt and has been passed around quite a bit in e-mail fowards and the like. On the plus side, this one is actually true and worthwhile.
Originally, Rick Reilly devoted one of his columns to the Hoyts in the June 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated. As a side note, if you are unaware of who Rick Reilly is, you really should check out some of his work because it is fantastic.
The reason I am posting it is because I think it is one of the more inspirational stories I have ever heard. Dick Hoyt epitomizes what a father should be and what love truly means. If I turn out to be half the man he appears to be, then I will consider myself successful.
By the way, if upon reading the story or watching the video, you find yourself sobbing uncontrollably, I will not hold it against you.
Anyway, the story is below…
Rarely does a band come along that is able to truly captivate me. In fact, the list of those bands can be limited to just one. Radiohead. However, in the past year, one group of musicians has been creeping toward the upper echelon of the musical ranking system in my mind. That band is Coheed and Cambria.
This is my very first post! I am so excited I almost just wet myself. I sure hope you are able to contain your enthusiasm better than I did, but it is certainly understandable if you cannot.
So, this is the point where you are probably asking yourself, “Self, what is this Mark guy going to make his site about?” Well, hold on to your butts because I am about to blow your mind.
The main theme for this site will be pop culture, which is, apparently, an extremely uncreative idea. I like movies and music about as much as anyone I know, yet I think I am pretty good about not being a snob. Hopefully, I will be able to offer some valuable insight every once in a while and maybe entertain you a bit while I’m at it.
I am not entirely positive about all the details right now, but, believe me, there are all kinds of ideas bouncing back and forth in my skull. It’s going to be great. I guarantee it. If you are not satisfied, then it is free!
