About

When my roommate, Shandi, and I moved into our fabulous little trailer on the east side of Stillwater almost a year ago, we knew we wanted to put together a household that for once didn’t look like a dorm room. Out with the posters, in with the paintings, and so forth. Throughout the year we tried our best to furnish and decorate our new place, trying as best we could to make it look “homey” and comfortable. However, money always got in the way of our endeavors. I am a self-confessed cheapskate, and in most shopping situations in which a normal person would think, “Only twenty bucks! That’s awesome!” on their way to the checkout, I think, “Twenty freaking bucks? Next, please!” To me, a deal isn’t a deal unless it’s $10 or less. Another goal that was put in place from the beginning was to eat like we were a family, not just roommates. After living in the dorms for two years with no stove, we were desperate to eat home-cooked meals, and not just once a week- almost every day. We began tackling the harder recipes that our moms used to make, and finding others that were easy and cheap to put together. Since then, our friends are always asking, “What are you making tonight?”, not wanting to go home to their Ramen noodles and microwave pizzas.

The idea for this Web site came from my understanding that college students deserve to have nice surroundings and good food, too. While not everything on this site costs less than $10 to make, the price-conscious college student will find some good ideas that will save money. I’m also a big fan of random helpful tips that I come across, so those tips will be posted on the main page. The DIY projects and recipes have both been quality-tested by my “wifey” and Web site muse, Shandi Tilley, and of course, yours truly. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
