Big XII Power Rankings Vol. 3
Power Rankings-Description down to six, list to twelve.
1. Texas-They went up to Nebraska and squeaked out a victory that might propel them into the National title game because all the teams in front have a good chance of losing. Ohio State and Michigan play each other; USC gets Cal and Notre Dame, Auburn and Florida have an SEC title game most likely, and West Virginia and Louisville have to play. I said it first; Texas has a chance to win the National title.
2. Missouri-They beat up on a bad Kansas State team, which they were supposed to do. These next two weeks will decide their season. Whether they go to the Cotton Bowl or the Holiday Bowl or the Alamo Bowl will be decided. They get Oklahoma at home and then go to Nebraska. I look for them to go 1-1 and I’m not sure where the win will come and the loss will come. If they beat Oklahoma, they will lose to Nebraska and vice versa.
3. Nebraska-They had a heartbreaking loss in which they gave Texas the game. As long as they can bounce back this week against another heartbroken in Oklahoma State, they play in the North Championship game at home the following week.
4. Oklahoma-Life without A.D. wasn’t so bad. Allen Patrick and Co. look like they can carry the load and Paul Thompson looks as good as he ever has. The defense isn’t allowing anything, albeit to a horrible Colorado offense, so that should carry over into the Missouri game. If they can win this game, they should be able to win out and take another trip into Dallas and the Cotton Bowl.
5. Texas A&M-They went into Stillwater on the Cowboy’s Homecoming and saved their season. This win sets up a showdown with OU for second in conference and maybe a trip to the Holiday Bowl. They’re playing way over their heads and should come back down to Earth, and I think it’s this week against Baylor.
6. Baylor-Don’t laugh, the Bears came back from seventeen down to start the fourth quarter to keep their bowl hopes alive. They’re 3-1 in conference but the three wins came against North teams. We’ll see how good they really are starting this week against Texas A&M.
