He is super famous potter in the world of contemporary Japanese art.
Born in the city of Nagasaki (which is about 300miles away from Bizen district). He was majoring in commercial design at first, he noticed that the world of commercial design is so limited and boring. And he realized the freedom in Bizen pottery and decided to be a Bizen ceramicist.

He is a son of Sozan Kaneshige, a famous Bizen artist. Once he studied art at an art school in Tokyo, but he dropped out of the school and became apprenticed to his father.

Although Born in Okayama, Shimamura wasn’t quite interested in pottery until the age of 33. He once left from Okayama to Osaka, which is now third largest city in Japan. In his early days he was interested in drawing and studied in in a college. But throughout his studies, he was impressed at Bizen pottery and decided to go back in Okayama to be a Bizen potter.

He was born in Okayama in 1941. He started pottery in 1969. Soon after he began pottery he built his own kilns. He awarded many prizes after the year of 2000.

He was born in 1937, as a member of one of the 6 oldest Bizen potter families. When Togaku was in an elementary school, he built a small kiln by himself and fired his artworks.
Years later, he graduated a university and once he became a professor at Okayama University. But only after 3 years, he retired voluntarily and started making pottery.
