Love for the Game!

David Allen David Allen loved baseball. And boy, would he have loved the ballpark that now bears his name.

David Allen played baseball for the Enid plainsmen and for the American Legion.

“David was always very cordial and friendly,” Enid High Athletic Director, Bill Mayberry said. “He always had a smile on his face. People enjoyed having him around. He kept everybody loose and happy.”

David Allen was critically injured in an automobile crash in 1978, leaving him in a coma for three weeks. For the next 17 years, he battled to regain his ability to walk, talk and function self-sufficiently.

For many years after the accident, he insisted that he would pursue his dream of returning to Trinity (Texas) Universiy and play baseball.”David was an inspiration,” the Allens wrote. “David was courageous and always hopeful. He was kind and funny, and just being around him made people feel good. He may have lost the opportunity to reach his first set of goals, but in the end he was a winner.”
