Obesity report cards: Will your child pass or fail?

S ome schools have started measuring more than a child’s intelligence, according to an article from the McClatchy-Tribune Information Services. The schools are recording children’s heights and weights, then calculating their body mass indexes (BMI.)
BMI is an indicator of body fat. The scores then are mailed to parents, and have been dubbed “obesity report cards.”
School counselors are pushing fruits and veggies and exercise in hopes of improving wellness, but some parents say this is just another label being placed on today’s kids and will lead to distorted body images.
