MS Walk Recap

The 2007 Stillwater MS Walk was PRSSA’s philanthropy for Fall 2007.

The PRSSA team began working with the Stillwater MS Walk Committee on August 28.
Giving Goodie Bags
PRSSA Duties:

  • Gathering enough items to fill 150 goodie bags.
  • Securing door prizes for the event.
  • Publicizing the event through PSA’s, press releases, feature articles and brochure placement.
  • Finding entertainment events for the walk.

The PRSSA president was the PRSSA team leader and volunteer coordinator the day of the event.

The PRSSA team was composed of 15 active members.

Each was assigned to a duty, and in charge of contacting a minimum of three business to seek donations.

DJ
Germaine Paul, a member of the team, wrote press releases and feature articles and distributed them to Stillwater, Perkins, Perry and Cushing papers.

Maggie Keirl distributed PSA’s, written by the president, to radio stations in Oklahoma City.

Each member of the team was given brochures to take to distribute to local businesses.

Holly, a member of the Stillwater MS Walk Committee, found a DJ for the event, and the PRSSA decorating team developed a football toss center as well as a pumpkin painting center.

The Day of the Walk:
Team members helped set up the walk at 7 a.m.
Sign Patrol
Duties included:

  • Hanging signs
  • Chalking sidewalks
  • Registering walks
  • Monitoring activity centers
  • Handing out medals to walkers
  • Passing out food
  • Giving out door prize items

Registration for the Walk began at 8 a.m. and most walked showed up around 8:30.

The walk stated at 9 a.m. and all walkers had completed the walk by 10:15 a.m.

After walkers finished the walk, they received a goodie bag and took team pictures.

Chicken sandwiches, chips water and tea were served at 10:30 a.m.

At 11:00 a.m. 15 door prizes were handed out.

Walkers left after door prizes were handed out and clean-up started at 11:30 a.m.

The PRSSA team then did follow-up, which included media tracking, thank you not writing and a thorough evaluation of the event.

The president will present PRSSA’s involvement and evaluation at the Stillwater MS Walk Committee meeting scheduled for late October.

Third MS Walk Meeting - September 28, 2007

The third MS Walk team meeting began at 4:00 p.m.

The president, officers and members of the team gathered all goodie bag items and began stuffing bags:
There were 15 donated items for each bag.
Team members stuffed 175 bags.

Extra items were giving to the president to be saved for next year.

The president then assigned volunteer duties for the day of the event:
Hanging signs
Chalking sidewalks
Registering walks
Monitoring activity centers
Handing out medals to walkers
Passing out food
Giving out door prize items
Cleaning up

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.

Second MS Walk Meeting - September 19, 2007

The second MS Walk team meeting began at 5:30 p.m.

The president opened the meeting with a report of donations so far.
10 businesses have donated door prizes
4 businesses have donated goodie bag items

The president then asked for an update from members on any progress made since status reports were turned in.
2 business were added to the door prize list
3 businesses were added to the goodie bag item list
6 businesses were taken off the potential donor list

The president stressed the need for goodie bag items, and took up all completed in-kind forms.

Then, the president formed a decorating committee that will meet before the next meeting to make signs and buy supplies.

The next meeting was set for Friday, Sept. 28.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.

First MS Walk Meeting - September 5, 2007

MS Walk Team
The first 2007 MS Walk Meeting began at 6:30 p.m.

The president gave the MS Walk Team a packet of information including:

The president then outlined PRSSA’s Objectives this year:

  • Secure goodie bag and door prize items.
  • Educate the public through press releases and articles.
  • Find entertainment for the day of the event.
  • Supply volunteers for the day of the event.

Students were assigned local businesses to ask for donations.

The MS Walk is on Sept. 29 and status reports and donations are due Sept. 22.
