UFC Forgot About Great Rematches

What was the UFC thinking about when they made a match between Michael Bisping and Rashad Evans? I know there is a little intrigue in having undefeated, Ultimate Fighter winners fight, but there is unfinished business with both of them. If any of you remember, the last fight Evans was in, it came to a draw again Tito Ortiz after a point was taken from Ortiz for holding a fence. If you ask me, i think that fight needs to happen again, since it was a draw and a good fight.

For Bisping, his last fight was a victory over Matt Hamill, which do believe was a very controversial one. It appeared to me and many of my friends that Hamill won that fight and the only reason it went to Bisping was that it was home field advantage. The European judges awarded him the victory when Matt clearly won. That again is another reason to hold a rematch.

Here is what needs to happen, put both fights on the same card and you have a great event. Have Ortiz v. Evans as the headliner, followed by Bisping v. Hamill. Also have on the card George St-Pierre v. Jon Fitch, the top contender in that weight division coming off an impressive victory over Diego Sanchez. The winner of that bout would face the winner of the Matt Hughes. Matt Serra fight for the UFC Welterweight title. Then take the winners of the aforementioned bouts , face them off and have them fight Rampage Jackson for the UFC Light Heavyweight title. i think that sounds like a great attraction to all fans.

So You Wanna Dance With Me…

If you are like me, you are growing increasingly bored with the state of boxing today and becoming more and more interested with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The reason is simple; boxing has gone to crap. Take a look at the different weight classes and the different belt, they all have different champions. The heavyweight title and the four belts along with it have different champions. I can almost bet you can only name one of them, if that, and you may not even know which Klitschko it is. At the same time, boxing doesn’t seem to be the same as in the past. There seems to be a new philosophy where you win a few rounds, then dance around the ring throwing a few punches and try to get the decision.

The most recent of these terrible fights was the one in which Oscar De La Hoya took on Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the super lightweight championship. This may have been the most boring fight in history, in which both fighters seemed to be afraid of the others ability and neither wanted to test the other. This is what has become of the great and pure sport of boxing, it has literally become Dancing with the Stars. There is more holding and dancing than ever and I personally am getting tired of it. The days of Ali, Jones Jr., Leonard, Frazier, Tyson and even “Tito” Trinidad and Hopkins, etc. appear to be long gone. Now enter the beautiful world of MMA. Though there may only be a few elite MMA companies: UFC, Pride, Elite XC, their fan base appears to be close to if not already passing that of boxing. Now, people are able to name more current MMA fighters than they are boxers.

Unlike boxing where the clench is a time for fighter to catch their breathe or avoid more shots, in MMA, if a clench occurs, someone is more than likely to go down and that could determine the fight. No ref stepping in to break them up so they can hug again, this is a pivotal moment in the match in which someone might gain a checkmate from occurs in the clench.

So, while those that buy PPV boxing and continue to be upset about the fight itself, i will sit back, have a few buddies over with a “dew” beers and watch each MMA match in its entirety and know that in any second this guy could be done; a bone could be broken or a hammer fist may end his night in a split second.
