History
The history of skateboarding began in the early 1900s. Kids would take the metal wheels off of their roller skates and attach them to a piece of lumber. The ride was uncomfortable and rough and turning was not an option. It was point and go. The first commercial longboard was introduced in he 50s as a child’s toy, but the ride was still very rough. When the surf was flat kids would grab their boards and head to drainage ditches and steep hills to pass the time. Skateboarders started to adopt the surfing style. Professional skateboarding started to gain popularity in the early 70s with the spark of the Dogtown Z-Boys. The urethane wheel fueled the the explosion of skateboarding. It was officially a commercial sport.
