Captain America Lives Again– And He’s Looking FABULOUS

Several comic fans were pretty ticked off when the epitome of patriotism in the comic realm, Captain America, was killed by gunfire in the March issue CAPTAIN AMERICA #25. Yeah, gunfire. However, I’ve always respected Marvel writers’ freedom of political expression through their favorite story lines. If they can integrate a theory on a controversial issue well into a comic, I enjoy it more. Mainly because most of the Marvel writers have mastered it.

Moving on. Steve Rogers fans can now rejoice because the Captain America idol has been revived. And he has a new costume designed by artist extraordinaire Alex Ross. The new getup is modeled mainly after the Captain’s 1940 look, emphasizing his infamous shield. Steve Rogers also has a new weapon– a fancy gun. Ross is well aware that some fans may be offended by the new weapon because hell, this is good old Captain America we’re talking about. But Ross expressed he wanted it to separate the new Captain from the old image. Ross said, “This is not your father’s Captain America, so to speak. It’s a more brutish interpretation, at this point, for the modern age” (Penagos).
