A little taste of Penny Arcade
’s genius…

I’m a big fan of Web comics. I’m not talking about the digital issues of usually tangible comics provided by the major distributors (although those do rock). I’m talking about those that follow the more Saturday-morning-funnies-section-of-the-paper style. The majority of internet comics that I check at least weekly are issued by popular gamer sites. They just tend to have the best stuff. Also, these sites have great information about upcoming video games… obviously.
Check these out:
-
Penny-Arcade
: Gamer site that streams out hilarious comics as well as great info. on games and console releases.
-
VG Cats
: Gamer-blog that updates comics about once a week.
-
XKCD
: A self-proclaimed “webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.”

I have mentioned before how comics have dipped into the cinema and television realms, but I have yet to speak of the gaming universe. And oh man there is a vast comic gaming universe. Comic games tend to do pretty well on the market considering the popularity of the films and television shows. That’s not to say the games are good. In fact, the first Superman game DC game out with was horrific. And Marvel’s first Hulk game… Yikes. But there are definitely some good ones out there. For example, X-Men Legends I and (especially) II are quite creative and perfect for those gamers who enjoy RPGs (role-playing games, or rather games where players assume roles of their characters and follow in-depth stories). Also, the Spider-Man games, specifically the second one, aren’t too bad. Honestly though, how bad can they be when Bruce Campbell is the narrator? BRUCE CAMPBELL.
