Estate sale

This isn’t related to my wedding, but I went to an estate sale on Sunday to look for a coffee table. They were selling the woman’s wedding dress for $40 ($20 because it was the last day). It depressed me a little bit. I never really thought of my dress as a keepsake, but I’d like someone to care about it someday - at least enough to leave it in a dusty corner instead of sell it. :(

Brad’s ring

Brad has fallen in love with tungsten. We found his wedding ring and he is kind of obsessed with it - but we were dumb and assumed the size incorrectly. We’d better take care of that before he ends up losing it, because he insists on wearing it anyway. It is very cute. The ring is shiny and indestructable - perfect for Brad. If I can steal it away from him, I’ll post pictures.

Registries

Brad and I have worked on registries at Target, JC Penney and Dillard’s. I found the entire process a lot harder than I expected, but then, I always have trouble picking out what to buy. Kitchen stuff is especially hard, because there are so many options and so much cute stuff.

Kristi came with us to JC Penney to look around and found a lot of stuff I probably wouldn’t have looked at twice - non-essential house decorations. She has a good eye for that kind of thing. I just don’t know where to start!

Invitations (with pictures)

We finished our invitations about this time last month, with just days to spare before we had to leave for NY. Thankfully, we got them in the mail before the trip.

The pictures I took before we sent them are not the best. I didn’t have my actual camera available, and my phone camera isn’t exactly great. You can get the general idea, though.

My favorite part is the lace. I didn’t realize Hobby Lobby had three different lace departments, so we were ready to go with something plain, white and expensive. After wandering around for a little bit, we found this sheer blue lace. It was perfect.

The Atherton

This hotel is attached to the student union (the location of our reception). We booked a room for the night so after the reception, we can hang out as late as we want and not have to worry about rushing home. Brad also has a strange fascination with hotels…

You can read more about the history of the hotel at the Atherton’s site. (Picture borrowed from the link.)

Hair/makeup?

I hadn’t really thought of this until just now - oops? I convinced Kristi to take care of my hair for me. I’ll have to find a place for Chrissy, Emily and my mother. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m not really sure how this will work.

Wooden roses

This is a horrible phone picture of the roses we plan to use for the bouquets and corsages. Kristi and I picked out the colors while Kalie and Brad hung in there and tried not to look too bored. We settled on a medium blue and a peachish color, with brown ribbon.

We ordered a a lot of the corsages to be made, but we figured we’d put together the bridesmaid flowers ourselves - and maybe use these roses for favors or centerpieces also.

These flowers are made a lot better than I expected. I like that I won’t have to worry about flowers dying in the middle of the day or something. I’m sure I’ll have a million other things to worry about instead!

(Bonus: bins in the background with buds in a bunch of pretty colors.)

Enid today (found an officiant!)

We went to Kremlin this morning so Brad could play academic bowl and planned to stop in Enid to drop off the bridemaid dresses. Of course, we forgot them (and didn’t realize until we were 15 minutes out of town and it was too late to turn back and make it to Kremlin on time), so we will have to go back Monday.

Otherwise, we got a lot of wedding planning in. Brad asked Ben’s dad, Kevin Baird, to officiate for us and he said yes, with a condition - if Tosha goes into labor, we wrap it up quickly so he can go to the hospital while his grandson is born. I suggested we bring the entire ceremony there, hah.

We also picked out wooden flowers for boutineers, corsages and bouquets. I’ll post pictures of them later on. Tosha had great ideas for centerpieces and chapel decorations, and it feels as if the decoration stage is going a lot smoother than I expected it to. I’ll write about that soon!

Registries

Brad and I were in OKC the other night picking up the bridesmaid dresses and decided to stop at Target. We had started a registry there forever ago but never really updated it, so we worked on that for a while. It was a lot easier than trying to do it online - the choices are more limited and you can actually see the products.

Online, Brad spent an hour deciding on the perfect knife set. We checked it out in the store and realized we would have made the same decision in 1/10th of the time if we’d just gone in to begin with!
