Chapel decorations?

I’m not sure what kind of decorations we should use in the chapel. Tosha, on the other hand, has tons of ideas. We plan to go sometime this week to measure the distance between the pews and find out how much tulle we’ll need. She also has some ideas with balloons. I wasn’t sure about them to begin with, but I think it could be a good effect.

A friend of a friend also got married in this chapel, so she’s supposed to be sending me pictures of what they did for that. I’m hoping I’ll have a better idea of what it needs in order to look good. I don’t think it will take much because of how cute the chapel is to begin with. I’ll try to take more pictures when we go in and measure everything.

Centerpieces (again!)

Who called it! I think we’ve nixed the wooden roses favor - we found something a lot simpler and a lot cuter. That means we’ll have to try to incorporate flowers some other way - we’re going to go shopping sometime this week and figure it out. I think for centerpieces, since they’ll sit there the entire day, I’d want them to be fake flowers. Otherwise, I’d be happy with a bunch of cheap vases filled with wildflowers.

So far, I have a tendency to fall for an idea, then totally scrap it when I go shopping and realize there are much better alternatives. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Enid today (found an officiant!)

We went to Kremlin this morning so Brad could play academic bowl and planned to stop in Enid to drop off the bridemaid dresses. Of course, we forgot them (and didn’t realize until we were 15 minutes out of town and it was too late to turn back and make it to Kremlin on time), so we will have to go back Monday.

Otherwise, we got a lot of wedding planning in. Brad asked Ben’s dad, Kevin Baird, to officiate for us and he said yes, with a condition - if Tosha goes into labor, we wrap it up quickly so he can go to the hospital while his grandson is born. I suggested we bring the entire ceremony there, hah.

We also picked out wooden flowers for boutineers, corsages and bouquets. I’ll post pictures of them later on. Tosha had great ideas for centerpieces and chapel decorations, and it feels as if the decoration stage is going a lot smoother than I expected it to. I’ll write about that soon!

Registries

Brad and I were in OKC the other night picking up the bridesmaid dresses and decided to stop at Target. We had started a registry there forever ago but never really updated it, so we worked on that for a while. It was a lot easier than trying to do it online - the choices are more limited and you can actually see the products.

Online, Brad spent an hour deciding on the perfect knife set. We checked it out in the store and realized we would have made the same decision in 1/10th of the time if we’d just gone in to begin with!

Tuxes (part 2)

All of the Stillwater people (Brad, Ben, Dakota, Josh) are going to be fitted for tuxes on Friday morning at Lillian’s Bridal on Main.

Having another important step finished will be reassuring, but it means that I will have to yell at David and Tommy to go get fitted as soon as possible. If I have to call them every day, I will!

Centerpieces!

I’ve been talking to Tosha forever about decorations; she’s a life saver. I’ve been really undecided about what I want to do for centerpieces. I always think of centerpieces as a vase of flowers and nothing more, but there are a lot more creative things that can look even better.

At first, Tosha was recommending goldfish, but we both had trouble finding a setup we really liked. Then she had the idea to use pillar candles, with favors out of the wooden flowers (because I love my flowers). That is the forerunner right now, but until we buy the supplies, I think there’s a chance I’ll change my mind.

Dinner options?

Ok, going buffet style, but trying to decide what to serve. Current options:

Parmesan-Crusted Chicken
Parmesan crusted chicken with sage butter sauce. Served with red potatoes roasted with garlic and rosemary and county green beans.

Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage
Oven-baked ziti with crushed tomatoes, onions, sweet Italian sausage and mozzarella served with sautéed asparagus.

Vegetable Napoleon
Oven-roasted zucchini, yellow squash, caramelized red onion, and eggplant layered with sweet sliced tomatoes and marinara sauce, topped with fresh mozzarella cheese.

This is something I need to get into catering soon but I don’t know what to
order of what. Time to call people and get accurate numbers!

Sit-down dinner or buffet?

When we first started planning, I figured we’d serve finger sandwiches and just try to relax in a lounge after the wedding. I brought this idea up to my mother and she didn’t really like it - she asked why I’d bother to rent a place if not to serve dinner? It also suits the time of our wedding a lot better to serve dinner afterward. The question is, should it be buffet or sit-down? I was leaning toward a sit-down dinner to begin with, but I think there would be too many complications. Brad doesn’t have an opinion on this, so it is my duty to think it through! Decisions…

Alcohol at the reception?

I’m not much of a drinker, but when we visited with the caterer, she asked if we wanted alcohol served at our wedding. I hadn’t even thought about it by that point. Because of our reception location, we can only use one company to cater alcohol, and they don’t seem to be the best as far as options go.

So far, we were thinking we’d have wine catered. I was wondering if it would be worth it to add liquor and beer, or even have a cash bar for those. Would it be too confusing?
