The Henry Bellmon Leadership Intern Program provides financial assistance for full-time Oklahoma State University undergraduates who will be completing government internships in Washington, D.C., or at a state or federal agency in Oklahoma for Summer 2008.

Radio Station Internship

Radio LogoKJRH, 2 News Works For You is a subsidiary of the E.W. Scripps Company, a diverse and growing media enterprise. Located in Tulsa Oklahoma, they began operations in 1954 and their network affiliation is NBC. On Monday February 25, 2008 starting with the production of 2 News at 10pm, KJRH Channel 2 News became Oklahoma’s first and only television station to broadcast its local news in High Definition (HD).

Internships are available for the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. Their station offers internships in our News, Promotions, Production and Sales Departments. The positions vary year-round and are based upon the needs of each department. In regard to the length (term), they work with the intern’s requirements, set by the internship advisor. Periodic evaluations of the intern will be completed as determined by the advisor.

Special requirements – Students must receive school credit for their internship. A negative drug screen is required prior to beginning an internship.

Students may apply by completing an internship application and submitting a cover letter, resume, and reference letter from their internship advisor. The reference letter should include that the student is in good standing and will be eligible to receive academic credit for the internship, if accepted.

Modern Love Essay Contest

Modern Love ImageLast summer the New York Times and mtvU invited students to participate in a conversation about college life, where the winning essay was printed in a special issue of the New York Times Magazine. They are now offering students another opportunity to do so! From the hippie culture to the AIDS epidemic to the Internet revolution, love has gone from “free” to fraught to Facebook. What is love now, in this age of 24/7 communication, blurred gender roles and new attitudes about sex and dating?

The New York Times and mtvU invite college students nationwide to submit a personal essay of between 1,500 and 2,000 words that illustrates the current state of love and relationships. The winning author will receive:
· $1,000 cash
· Their essay published in a special “Modern Love” column in the New York Times and on nytimes.com
· Their essay also featured on mtvU and mtvU.com

Several runner-up essays may also be published in print, on nytimes.com, or on mtvU.com

$3,500 Scholarship Opportunity

The AAF 10th District has several scholarships available this year including one called the ILA Scholarship in the amount of $3,500 connected with JC Penney.
