Moonraker (1979)

Overall Rank- 17th

Because of its release being related to the Star Wars phenomenon, this film gets slightly ridiculous after awhile. Bond to actually traveling in a rocket to a space station (with no known experience as an astronaut) to fight the main villain is a little too much for me.

Granted, when I was younger this film was much more appealing. Now, I consider it somewhat of a joke. I still rank it slightly midrange because Moore does do a fair job with what he is given here.

Jaws is one of the most recognizable villains of any film. His appearance in The Spy who Loved Me was exciting, but I felt he was a stronger character in this film. Hugo Drax is a villain who seems pretty evil, but really does not grab my attention much. His character in the novel of the same title was more intriguing to me.

Holly Goodhead was an attractive Bond girl, but ultimately forgettable.

The outer space concept makes this one of the more ridiculous plots (How many secret agents go to outer space with no astronaut training to fight evil?), but based on the time it was released, I will not lay the blame solely on the film. The producers were likely trying to cash in on the then current craze for science fiction movies.

Overall it is a forgettable Bond experience. Jaws makes for some excitement, but one would not miss much by passing on this less than amazing Bond film.
