Octopussy (1983)

Overall Rank- 19th

When the opening scene involves Bond dressed as a clown, not much good can follow. This is the Bond film I have probably seen the least besides Thunderball. The reason is that Roger Moore is not much more than a glorified clown in this film. Moore’s Bond lost appeal after For Your Eyes Only (his only fairly serious portrayal of Bond).

Villains were mostly forgettable. The twin knife throwers were somewhat entertaining. Otherwise, I’m not sure I would remember the main villains’ names without looking them up.

Bond’s gadgets were increasingly outlandish with this film. His mini-jet, while an interesting idea, ultimately took away some of Bond’s suave demeanor.

Bond girls in this film are also very forgettable. Octopussy was played by Maud Adams who had been in previous Bond films, but this was my least favorite role for her.

Ultimately this remains one of my least favorite Bond films. I would recommend it only to the most hardcore fans or individuals who think Roger Moore was the best Bond (not sure who this would be, though to each his own).
