The World is Not Enough (1999)
Overall Rank- 16th
Though Brosnan was well into his portrayal of a “super” James Bond by this point, this film is still enjoyable. I rank it fairly low because I have not seen it as much as many of the other Bond films. For the most part I enjoy it.
The women in this film are some of the best. Elektra King and Christmas Jones are two of the best post-eighties Bond girls. Elektra plays her double part well and Jones is sassy enough to be appealing.
Renard is a decent villain, but since he is doomed to die anyway, I never found myself truly feeling he was much of a threat to Bond. In fact, his impending death made him a weaker villain than those who become headstrong first, only to meet sudden death at the hands of Bond.
I appreciate Valentin Zukovsky’s return in this film. I enjoy Robbie Coltrane’s acting and was glad to see they reprized his character for this film.
The themes of betrayal and unknown villains make this a fairly suspenseful film until the true villains are revealed. I would recommend this as a decent Bond film.
Despite the reliance on gadgets and not on real skill, Bond is decently portrayed in this film.
